ISU’s Provost Betsy Hoffman to step down within year

AMES — Iowa State University Provost Elizabeth “Betsy” Hoffman announced in a campus email Monday she will step down from her position within the next year.

Hoffman said she has asked new ISU President Steven Leath to start a search for a new executive vice president and provost.

“As many of you know, I have been exploring other opportunities, including being a public finalist for the presidency of the University of New Mexico,” she wrote in the email. “I appreciate that many of you have asked me to stay, but I understand that President Leath needs to be able to search for my replacement while I am looking at other opportunities.”

Hoffman says she has agreed to stay in her position until Dec. 31, 2012, unless she accepts another position or until a new provost is able to start.

Hoffman has been ISU provost for five years, and in a previous stint at ISU was liberal arts and sciences dean for four years.
